This policy explains what personal information we collect through the etaxi app, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what you can do about it. We have kept it deliberately short and plain.
Who are we
etaxi-transport and logistics (Pty) Ltd (“etaxi”, “we”, “us”)
49 John Meinert Street, 10005 Windhoek, Namibia
Registration No. (BIPA): 20231352
Email: office@etaxi-worldwide.com
We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy. If you have any questions about it, write to us at the address above.
If you are a passenger:
Your mobile phone number, and your name if you give it to us
Your pick-up and drop-off locations, and your trip history
Your device location while you are using the app (see Section 2)
Payment information, where you pay by card or mobile money. We do not store your full card number — that is held by our payment provider
Ratings and feedback you give, and messages you send to our support team
Basic technical information about your device (device model, operating system, app version, and a device identifier)
If you are a driver:
Everything listed above, and in addition:
Your name, address, date of birth, and contact details
Copies of the documents you upload to register and stay registered: driving licence, Professional Driving Permit (PDP), police clearance certificate, vehicle registration, roadworthiness certificate, and insurance certificate
Your vehicle details and number plate
Your location while you are logged in to the driver app, including when the app is running in the background (see Section 2)
Your trip records, earnings, ratings, and account balance
We only ask for what we need to run the service and to meet the requirements that apply to passenger transport operators in Namibia.
2. Location data — including in the background
Location is the core of a ride-hailing service, so we want to be clear about it.
Passengers. We collect your location while the app is open, so that we can show you nearby vehicles, set your pick-up point, and share your pick-up location with the driver who accepts your trip.
Drivers. We collect your location while you are logged in and available for trips — including when the app is closed or running in the background. We need this to send you nearby trip requests, to show passengers where their vehicle is, to calculate fares and distances, and to help resolve disputes and safety incidents.
You can switch location access off at any time in your device settings. If you do, the app will not be able to match you with trips, and the core of the service will stop working.
3. Why we use your information
We use your information to:
create and manage your account
match passengers with drivers and carry out trips
calculate fares, process payments, and account for our commission
verify that drivers hold valid licences, permits, and insurance
provide customer support and resolve complaints and disputes
keep the service safe, investigate accidents and incidents, and prevent fraud
meet legal and regulatory obligations, including requests from the Ministry of Works and Transport, the Namibian Police, and other competent authorities
improve the app and fix problems (see Section 5)
send you service messages, and marketing messages where you have not opted out (see Section 6)
Between drivers and passengers. When a driver accepts a trip, we share the passenger’s first name, pick-up location, and a contact method with the driver, and the driver’s name, photo, vehicle details, and location with the passenger. This is necessary for the trip to happen.
Payment providers. process card and mobile money payments on our behalf. They receive the payment details needed to complete the transaction.
Google. We use Google Firebase and related Google services for analytics and crash reporting (see Section 5).
Authorities. We share information with the police, courts, transport regulators, or tax authorities where we are legally required to do so, or where it is necessary to investigate a serious safety incident or a crime.
Service providers. Companies that host our servers, send our notifications, or provide customer support tools, acting on our instructions. We do not sell your personal information.
5. Analytics and crash reporting
We use Google Firebase and Google Analytics to understand how the app is used and to be told when it crashes. These tools collect technical information such as your device model, operating system, app version, a device identifier, and the screens you open and actions you take in the app.
We use this to fix bugs and improve the app. We do not use it to identify you personally.
These services are provided by Google and the information is processed on Google’s servers, which are located outside Namibia. This means your information may be transferred to and stored in other countries.
We may send you emails or push notifications about offers, promotions, and new features.
You can stop these at any time — use the unsubscribe link in any email, turn off notifications in your device settings, or write to us at office@etaxi-worldwide.com. Opting out of marketing does not stop essential service messages, such as your driver’s arrival or a receipt for your trip.
We keep your information for as long as you have an account with us, and afterwards only for as long as we need it:
Trip and payment records: 5
Driver licensing and permit documents: for as long as you drive with us, and 2 afterwards, so that we can respond to regulatory queries
Support messages and complaint records: 2
Accident and safety incident records: 5
After these periods we delete the information or remove anything that identifies you.
You can ask us to delete your account and your personal information at any time:
in the app, under Settings → Account → Delete account, or
by emailing office@etaxi-worldwide.com from the address registered to your account, or
We will confirm within 30 Days. Some information must be kept even after deletion, where the law requires it — for example, trips and payment records needed for tax purposes, or records relating to an open safety investigation or dispute. We will tell you if this applies to you.
You can ask us to:
tell you what personal information we hold about you
correct information that is wrong or out of date
stop sending you marketing messages
To make a request, email office@etaxi-worldwide.com. We may ask you to confirm your identity first, so that we do not give your information to someone else.
Namibia does not currently have a general data protection law or a data protection authority. We have written this policy to meet international good practice and the requirements of the Apple App Store and Google Play, and we will update it when Namibian data protection legislation comes into force.
10. Keeping your information safe
We protect your information using access controls, encrypted connections, and restrictions on which of our staff can see what. Driver documents are only accessible to the staff who verify them.
No system is completely secure. If a security incident affects your personal information in a way that puts you at risk, we will inform you and the relevant authorities.
The etaxi app is not intended for children. You must be 18 or older to create an account. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make an important change, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated, and we keep previous versions available on request.
